FRIDAY NOVEMBER 16th @ NOTTING HILL ARTS CLUB - SCRATCH PRESENTS: B-SIDE ft JEHST FULL LIVE BAND + FREE FLEXI DISKS !!

https://www.facebook.com/events/370794073005344/

B-SIDE has been jam packed with opened minded up for it party people for the last 3 months and our next live session is set to not disappoint.

An iconic name synonomous with multi-layered lyricism, liquid flows and blunted beats, Jehst is one of the few seminal figures credited with spearheading a movement of artists who would kick open the doors for homegrown Hip Hop to become as vibrant & healthy as it is today

Far from just a local hero, Jehst is a name known globally with an influence reaching far an
d wide from America's underground to Australia and back again. NME have named him a "cult hero", Mike Skinner (The Streets) described him as "fantastic" in his recent autobiography and even 'rapper's rapper' Pharoahe Monch has praised Jehst's abilities, telling The Cut "Dope, dope. I like his pocket... where his rhymes fall at."

With a captivating stage presence to match his studio persona, Jehst 's reputation on the live circuit has seen him billed alongside some truly iconic artists. This Autumn alone sees him sharing stages with DOOM, Public Enemy and Lord Finesse! So it's safe to say that the B-Side audience are in for a treat when he hits the stage with his live band to showcase new material as well bringing a live twist to some of his well known underground classics.

With Micall Parknsun (YNR) on the mic and the MPC, Jazz T (Boot Records / ITF champ) on turntables, Louis Slipperz (Task Force / Owiny Segoma Band) on bass, the sultry Fae Simon on backing vocals & time-changing magician Kwake (Speakers Corner Quartet) on drums, Jehst's live band are a force to be reckoned with.

And don't forget the JEHST B-SIDE flexi-disc FREE give away to the first 100 people through the door. Get down early to pick up November's super exclusive edition #fresh fruit

Royalty absolutely smashed the second instalment of B-SIDE in September and this month we have an extra special treat for you. The mind bogglingly talented Bobby C Sound TV all the way from Canada showcasing his unbelievable AV skills for one of the first times in the UK.

In early 2009 Bobby started messing around with video’s in his DJ set creating new mashups and remixes of well known tunes and videos and thus, "Bobby C Sound TV" was born. His love of cinema combine
d with his 10 years of DJ experience helped him to create a pastiche of pop-culture that is visually mind blowing and infectiously danceable at the same time. His live mash up DJ approach creates crowd rocking routines with some of the most memorable music videos, movie scenes and just about everything in between.

Not just one of the worlds best AV DJ’s, the past few years have seen Bobby busier than ever on the production front with remixes and releases on 11 different labels worldwide and jumping on multiple top 10 lists for Juno Download and Beatport.

He recently made the soundcloud weekly top 10 as their hottest tracks list for his track, Neon Night Light and his Ray Charles remix made it to #4 on The Hype Machine's most popular list which was the third time he made their top 20 list.

Bobby has rocked festivals far and wide sharing the stage with a number of heavy-hitters including George Clinton, Z-Trip (18 times!), Q-Bert, De La Soul, The Pharcyde, Rakim, Madlib, DJ Yoda (2 times), Guru, DJ Spinna, Kid Koala, Cheb-I-Sabbah, Digital Underground, Naughty By Nature, Rudy Ray Moore a.k.a Dolomite, Maceo Parker, Kool Keith, Mike Relm,

Scratch the B-SIDE ft ROYALTY (Five Easy Pieces)

Friday 21 September at the Notting Hill Arts Club
7pm-2am, free before 8pm, £6 before 11pm, £8 after

Live on stage at 10pm: Royalty (Five Easy Pieces)
United DJ's from Scratch & Funk Royale: Richy Pitch (Gorillaz Sound System), Matt Smooth and Mr Chex (Funk Royale) and host MC Tukka

What a wicked start we had last month, with Mo Kolours playing a deep set on stage.

This month we have the seriously talented (and underrated) Royalty, aka east London duo Chesca and Elliott Yorke whose music is released by the badda than bad Five Easy Pieces.

Their latest EP, 'Purple Nights', demonstrates the rapid maturity of their suave, electrofunky digital boogie. XLR8R described them very well:
'Somewhere in between Daft Punk's robotic revelry, Kraftwerk's chilly minimalism, and Jimmy Edgar's austere sex appeal, you'll find Royalty's Chesca and Elliot Yorke working out deep low-end melodies, incessant dance rhythms, alien vocoder sounds, and icy synthlines - all of which perfectly create the duo's retro-futuristic motif.'

And don't forget the Royalty flexi-disc which B-Side are giving away to the first 100 people through the door. Get down early to pick up September's exclusive edition'.

Scratch & The Jazz Cafe Present

CHALI 2NA & ROC (are RON ARTISTE)

plus DJ P TRIX
along side Scratch DJs Matt Smooth, Lyley, Tomski & Richy Pitch

THURSDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER 2012

Tickets £15 in advance from here:

Doors 7pm

Chali 2na of the legendary Jurassic 5 and solo artist extraordinaire and former Stones Throw artist Roc C from Oxnard have recently formed a group called "Ron Artiste", with a free mixtape dropped in July, and an August album release called "R.I.D.S." on KashRoc Entertainment. Ron Artiste takes its name from Los Angeles Lakers basketball player Ron Artest, who is now known as Meta World Peace, and the album is annoucned to feature appearances of King Tee, The Alchemist, Krondon, Oh No, Rapper Big Pooh, LMNO and Casual, amongst a few others.

Chali 2na has done it all. From his days growing up on the hardscrabble streets of Chicago’s south side, to his subsequent explosion onto Los Angeles’ burgeoning hip-hop scene, to his tenure as MC for seminal hip-hop group Jurassic 5, Chali epitomizes the portrait of a 21st century artist. To be sure, with his unmistakable, beloved baritone, Chali has firmly established himself as one of the most distinctive, charismatic personalities not just in hip-hop, but music in general. He has released four albums with Jurassic 5, as well as his solo album "Fish Outta Water" in 2009, amongst various other releases. On stage, there truely aren't many who can control the crowd the way he can, who he always leaves shouting for more.

Hailing from the same California town, Oxnard, that brought Lootpack and Madlib to the world, Roc 'C' was first introduced with his appearance on Oh No's (another Oxnard native) single "Move, Pt. 2" in 2004, produced by J Dilla. This led to a signing with Stones Throw Records, which released his debut album, All Questions Answered, in 2006.

DJ P-Trix, who will join them on the tour, began djing at the age of 12. His natural talent, dedication and genuine love for music quickly gained him recognition in the late 1990’s in the underground hip-hop community. P-Trix has performed internationally with hip-hop legends including Common, De la Soul, The Roots and Eminem. He was crowned the 1999 DMC USA Champion and placed 3rd in the DMC World Championship. Among his other titles, P-Trix was named the Dirtstyle DJ of the Year by the Invisible Skratch Piklz, as well as Blaze Magazine’s 1998 DJ Battle Champion. Recognized by many for his unrivaled beat-juggling skills, P-Trix’s highly-technical and innovative style has amazed fans across the world and gained the respect of hip-hop greats.

This isn't to say we're not continuing the party, far from it (news soon come on Scratch in Sept) but we feel the time has come to start a brand new party with a new twist

and it's with great pleasure we announce Scratch presents B-SIDE
